Fewer than 1 % of our Irish Trustpilot reviews are critical, so there is little to quote here. Gold Arthur works the same way in the UK, and the five topics below come from critical reviews on our UK profile. The answers apply to your visit in Ireland too.
1. “There are better prices elsewhere”
What the reviewer said
“Pleasant but there are better”
Melanie J. ยท Trustpilot UK ยท 10 August 2026
Our answer
This is the most common criticism, and we understand it. Prices differ between buyers, and a jeweller or gold shop may sometimes pay more. The gold price in the news is for pure, refined 24ct gold traded in large amounts. A 9ct ring, for example, is 37.5 % gold, and it must be refined before reuse. Our service also comes to you: the expert, the vehicle and the free valuation all have a cost, and that is reflected in the price.
What you can do: compare. Our valuation is free and there is no obligation to sell, so you can use it as a benchmark and take your items elsewhere. Our guide to how broken and scrap gold is valued explains what decides the price.
2. “The valuation wasn’t broken down for me”
What the reviewer said
“I was mostly put off by the staff member not willingly breaking down the valuation for me”
C. E. M. ยท Trustpilot UK ยท 17 August 2026
Our answer
You should never have to push for this. When you bring items of different carats, the expert should tell you the weight and carat of each one and how its price was worked out, before you decide anything. The scale faces you so you can follow along.
What you can do: ask the expert to go through your items carat by carat before you confirm: what each item weighs, which carat it is, and the total for each carat group. You can watch the scale an follow the whole valuation process from beginning to end. If anything is unclear, please ask. You are never obligated to sell if you feel like something is unclear.
3. “I felt rushed”
What the reviewer said
“It was rushed and I was made to feel like I was bothering them”
Naomi W. ยท Trustpilot UK ยท 29 April 2026
Our answer
That is not how a visit should feel. Your appointment is private and one-to-one, and you should feel welcome whether you sell or not. You book a longer time window, and the expert contacts you on the day or the evening before with a more exact time, so you don’t have to wait. That timetable must never come at the cost of explaining things properly.
What you can do: if you feel hurried, say so and ask the expert to go through each step. If you would rather come back on another day, that is completely fine. You can also tell us about your visit at info@goldarthur.ie.
4. “I had to wait for my money”
What the reviewer said
“I am still waiting for the money in my bank account”
Melanie J. ยท Trustpilot UK ยท 10 August 2026
Our answer
If you sell, the money is paid into your bank account by bank transfer no later than the fifth banking day, sometimes sooner depending on your bank. We never pay in cash. A bank transfer is safer and traceable for both sides. We know some people expect to be paid on the spot, which is why we tell you the payment time before you decide.
What you can do: if the payment hasn’t arrived by the fifth banking day, email info@goldarthur.ie with the details from your receipt and we will look into it straight away.
How to recognise a trustworthy gold buyer
Signs of a gold buyer you can trust, whoever you choose:
โ Your gold is weighed and tested in front of you, and you can read the scale yourself.
โ You are told the weight and carat of each item and how the price was calculated.
โ The valuation is free, nobody pressures you to decide on the spot, and you are welcome to compare.
โ Payment is made by bank transfer, never in cash, so it is safe and traceable for both sides.
โ The company’s name, registration number, contact details and customer reviews are easy to find.
You book a free, private appointment at a stop near you, often a car park in your own town. The valuation takes about 15 minutes. The expert checks the hallmarks, tests unmarked items and weighs your gold in front of you.
You decide whether to sell everything, some of it or nothing at all, so take your time. If you sell, the money is paid into your bank account no later than the fifth banking day, never in cash. Read more about what happens during a gold valuation, or see what 9ct, 14ct and 18ct mean for the gold in your jewellery.
